Where Dedication Met Determination – Taraori’s Tale
In 2002, inspired by Kanhai’s success, Pawan and Sangeeta reached Taraori, 16 km from Karnal, Haryana, where Kuldeep Rai and Ashok were running a coaching centre. The idea of an FTC for children who couldn’t afford tuitions resonated with them, and with support from Jagdev, classes 6–8 began at House No. 14, near Amirchand Mandir. Kuldeep’s wife Geeta soon joined, bringing discipline and warmth, creating a serious learning environment. Over the years, Taraori has produced achievers like Deepak Raheja in event management, Mahesh at Lava, Deepak Arora in road projects, Vinay in Haryana’s Super 100 (2023), and Sanjana pursuing M.Pharmacy (2024). Geeta and Kuldeep mentor students like foster parents, balancing academics, career guidance, and digital distractions, while their hands-on approach and old-school values have made second-generation enrolments common. Supporting them are Kartik, an ex-student and Science & Computer teacher, and Jyoti, teaching Hindi & Social Studies since 2015.

Apart from other free tuition centers, it became a personalised and safe space for students, which gave them a platform to express their talents. From art to music to dance, to handwriting to sports…every skill was observed, encouraged, celebrated and rewarded. Parents were equally involved and updated through PTMs.

Geeta Rai

Geeta has been a part of Shiksha Prayas since April 2009, teaching Mathematics to students from Classes 6 to 9 at the Taraori Centre. With a deep passion for teaching, she ensures that every student develops a strong understanding of mathematical concepts. Her patient and dedicated approach helps learners build confidence and problem-solving skills, making Maths both accessible and enjoyable.
Kartik
Teacher, Taraori Centre
Kartik has been part of Shiksha Prayas since August 2024, teaching Computer Science and Science to students from Classes 6 to 9. Passionate about playing games, he brings enthusiasm and energy into the classroom, making learning both interactive and enjoyable. Kartik focuses on helping students build strong conceptual understanding while fostering curiosity and problem-solving skills.
Jyoti
Teacher, Taraori Centre
Jyoti has been with Shiksha Prayas since April 2014, teaching Hindi and Social Studies to students of Classes 6 to 8 at the Taraori Centre. With a love for singing and a warm, engaging teaching style, she creates a classroom environment where students feel encouraged to learn, ask questions, and connect with their lessons. Jyoti’s dedication ensures that every child builds both knowledge and confidence.
Rajender
Centre Head, Teacher
Rajender has been with Shiksha Prayas since 2002, teaching Science and English to students from Classes 6 to 12 at the Taraori Centre. With a love for watching movies and a passion for education, he brings both experience and enthusiasm into the classroom. Rajender focuses on helping students build a strong academic foundation while encouraging curiosity and a love for learning.

Shiksha Prayas
Shiksha Prayas is a 24-year-old non-profit organization committed to empowering underprivileged children in Haryana through quality educational support. Operating from four learning centers located in Kanhai, Taraori, Siwan, and Polar, we offer free tuition—from Grades 4 to 10—tailored to help government school students bridge learning gaps and stay on track with mainstream education. Over the years, our initiatives & endeavours have positively impacted the lives of more than 3,500 students.
