KANHAI – THE STORY
The Foundation Stone of Our 25-Year Journey
Driven by the success of personally tutoring their domestic helper’s daughter, Pawan and Sangeeta Kamra established the first Shiksha Prayas free tuition center in Kanhai, Gurugram. This initial experience, and witnessing the desire of other children to learn, fueled the creation of a structured educational model. The center, originally named “Prayas,” officially began its first class on November 21, 2000, with 25 government school students. The initiative quickly expanded to accommodate 40 students within a week, demonstrating the immediate demand and the founders’ commitment to providing a holistic learning environment complete with a defined curriculum, progress tracking, and extracurricular activities.

Apart from other free tuition centers, it became a personalised and safe space for students, which gave them a platform to express their talents. From art to music to dance, to handwriting to sports…every skill was observed, encouraged, celebrated and rewarded. Parents were equally involved and updated through PTMs.
